Feel confident with the boss

Some tips to help you build a strong relationship with your boss, and start to take charge of your career.

Managers are always interested in employees who will assist them to accomplish the objectives that are set for their teams. 

 These objectives might be increased productivity, increased sales etc.

It's a fact that self-starters, people who use there intuitive and results oriented individuals are in big demand. 

And consider this, If your boss had a hand in hiring you then you can be fairly confident that he/she already thinks well of you. 

Now that you're on the payroll, it' up to you to exploit the opportunity. 

Performing well will reinforce the message that the decision to hire you, was the correct decision. 

Here are some tips that will assist you in building a great relationship with your boss, while building your self confidence in your ability to "manage up further."

Take a few minute's to place yourself in your boss' shoes. 

From their point of view, what are the pressures, the stresses, objectives , and the demands? 

Once you have a clear  idea of what these are, you be in a better postion to make decisions, tailor your communications, and make contributions that will enable others to perceive you as an most valuable member of the team! . It's a case of discovering what your boss needs and then working

on getting it for him or her.

Don't forget to see your boss as a real person, just like you are.

Your boss did not start out as the boss at school, no, just like you he/she has worked up to the position they now have. Therefore, they have lots of experience to share with you. 

Best is if they are willing, allow them to be your mentor. Ask for feedback regularly, and get their input on your career goals. 

Encourage bonding by engaging in occasional personal banter about family, personal hobbies, etc. Share your information, but inquire about his/her family, hobbies, as well, take an interest in the person.

Try to bee helpful and proactive

Once you have an understanding of what the demands are on your boss,you can  try your best to contribute to helping them ease

the demands. 

Think what are some immediate accomplishments you can make to help further the team?

Where can you take the initiative to solve a problem or improve a process that wasn't even on the radar screen?

Demonstrating a clear understanding of the strategic focus of the organization will help others to perceive you as a leader and team player. 

You will gain the respect of your managers, and ensure your career is on the fast track.

Manage your performance review process

Record your accomplishments, and inquire about other ways you can contribute to overall team goals. 

Be assertive about your career plan and ask for projects that will stretch your current abilities. 

Be clear about the support you seek from your boss, and be equally clear and honest about the deliverables you will produce.
