What Goes Into Organizing for Having the Olympic Games
Hosting the summer Olympics is a tough job many countries are honored to take on. The organizing of hosting the Olympics can take years to make as there is so much work that must go into the planning for such a large event. When the United States hosted the Olympics in the 1990s, even though they already have plenty of stadiums, the people on the committee still had lots or preparations to make. The three main things that had to be figured out included figuring out which cities would host which events, making sure the stadiums in each city would be prepared for each event that city would hold, and planning for security for athletes and fans. As far as the stadiums were concerned, the Olympic committee chose to hire an aquatic facility design in MD Company to come out and make sure the aquatic centers that had been chosen were acceptable. The committee also hired architects in Washington DC to double check that the stadiums were safe and again, acceptable for the events for which they were chosen.
It was not an easy mission, trying to decide which cities would host Olympic events, and then after that, deciding which of those cities would host which events. Most big cities in the United States had at least one stadium per city, so the trouble was choosing what places would be best for which events. The criteria used to decide included, how populated the city was, how easily the stadium the city chosen could be converted to host whichever event it was holding, and how easy it is for the athletes to get to each city.
The next task for the Olympic committee was to make sure the stadiums in the chosen cities were the best stadiums for the events that particular city was chosen to host. The Olympic committee hired private firm architects and stadium planners to make sure everything was ok before making their final decisions on which cities would hold which events.
Finally, the Olympic committee had to plan for a police force at each game. Having security included having police to be amongst the crowd to make sure everyone was safe. Also, there needed to be security for the competitors. This takes so long to plan because local police stations had to have the opportunity to ask for volunteers for this kind of event, and ensure that they will have enough normal staff in case anything happens that is unrelated to the Olympics.
For thousands of years, hosting the Olympic Games has been an incredible honor for hundreds of countries. As time goes by, and the event constantly gets larger it takes longer to plan once a country is chosen to host the games. It is a miracle that for nearly every event, the event is able to run relatively smoothly, with normally few major problems.
